  • September 2024 Prologue

    There’s a sound of rusted hinges creaking in an Autumn wind. He didn’t think it was Fall, but he couldn’t tell how long he’d been bound, and tormented in whatever pit he’d been dragged into. The sound of bare feet pipped and papped their way across the cold stone tiles towards him. His breath stifled as he felt the stranger squat down on their knees in front of him; their all too familiar tormentor's hot breath buffeting his face, filling him with the stench of iron blood and old meat. “You know Pete, I don’t think we ever introduced ourselves.” The stranger’s voice carried all the lost sweetness of curdled milk. Jeremiah had heard the voice a few times before- screeching madly and calling him a plethora of inaccurate names with an absolute assuredness each time before the pain resumed. It was however the first time it ever seemed to address him directly in a tone that seemed conversational. He held his tongue, body trembling for their tormentors' next lash. The stranger’s voice, like a whistling wind through gravel and broken glass, continued, “Well Greg, I’m Larry. Some say I’m a Laugher; some grease painted performer, here to elicit amusement, but when I laugh it's with reason. It's a good cause for entertainment. So before I take these thumbs and drive them past those sockets and pop your neck, I’ll entertain you with a tale… Those who give me a whole lotta scratch’d love if you hear it. It begins like alotta stories;” Once upon a time there was some place across the rift. A place where bad things seemed to come to people all the time. A place where people go missing all the time. A place where someone named Nesterin went missing. A place where dreams go to grow until they burst. A place where Balsum’s gone missing. A place where Baza has gone missing. Dreams were dead and a year ago my friends brought it back, but Travance didn’t wanna hear ‘em out. My friends wanted dreams to grow so big they’d burst wide open- but that all got stopped. Now there’s a place where someone named Alion has gone missing. Someone named Aize, Tuuliki, and Sable went missing too. They think they locked ‘em out but we’re still here talkin’ ain’t we Geoff?!” Jeremiah felt cold callow hands lock around his shoulders, he murmured, “Please where is my wife?” An impossible pain cut through him as he felt his optic nerves, retinas and iris regrow. The mad face of his tormentor was for the first time clear to him- their eyes interlocked. He realized Larry did not have his hands upon his shoulders. Jeremiah instinctively went to look up but the madman grabbed his scalp and pulled his eyes forward towards him. It was a cautionary gesture, not to look up- not to perceive what was behind him. He could now see the shreds of meat between the Laugher’s teeth, “She’s in the hands of some Hags I think took a liking to her; some Midwives. I think they’re treating her rightwise. Right there with a little gal named Eden.”Jeremiah began his prayers to Andorra for his wife’s peace and deliverance. The hands around his shoulders froze him to his core, The Laugher continued, “My friend won’t hurt you Jeremiah..” At hearing his own name the pilgrim looked up for a brief second, seeing the cold blue eyes of his tormentor. Then  sharp thumbs blackened his sight. “He promised me you’re mine.”  Pain, screaming, then the wet pop of joints. The last sound before it all faded into blackness was something shrill. Something like laughter.

  • Online Announcements September 2024

    Schedule: Earliest arrival is 12pm. Check in begins at 6pm. Lay on is at 10pm. Lay off is Sunday at 2pm. *** New Player Training will be under the white tent outside the Inn at 7:30 pm, Friday Night. This is a mandatory training that should only take 20ish minutes to go over important safety elements of the game. Players will need to be signed off on their character card after they attend. Do not stress over needing to be there at exactly 7:30! If you cannot get to camp for whatever reason, or you just happen to be running a little late, not to worry, a CM can give you a makeup training whenever it is deemed best. 10:30 am Saturday morning will be the easiest time for this. Your card will still be signed off. If you do not have your character card yet by the time training starts, that is also ok! So long as we get to sign off on it at some point throughout the weekend will do! Once we go over safety you are free to leave, however you may stay to ask questions and have a bit more explaining mechanics wise about out game! Anyone not attending new player training, try to stay clear of the area, as interruptions only make things take longer. At 11am Saturday morning, there will be a tour for new players. Meet at the Inn by 10:45 am and your tour guide will get you. Expect combat tailored to your level! We ask that if any vets brining in a new character wants to attend the tour, you may in order to have that rp experience with other newer towns folk, but try to leave combat to the first time players. Parking at Logistics At this time, the only people authorized to park in the area behind or next to logistics are with direct permission from the Director, or the Officers, Safety Lead, Weekend Event Runner, and Exalted Team. Anyone else cannot  leave their cars parked in that area. Please do not park in front of the door/garage door to the area under the barn, or you will be parked in. Early Camp Cleanup If you are leaving early (before lay off) and need cleanup assignments, please see the Logistics Marshals. They will be able to assign you tasks to complete. Please do not see them for early cleanup if you will still be on camp at lay-off on Sunday at 2pm, and instead come to lay-off to get your assignment. Rules Announcements and Updates Rules Updates Characters will now only pause learning Exalted Skills if they unlearn a Master Class in favor of learning a new one. Details can be found in the General Exalted Mechanics document ( https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Puws9lx95Q0sjnf3alYvpDmUu8n-AMt0lGVFFaVWKu0/ ) in the Prerequisites section. Venom Strike This exalted skill has been updated from 30 to 40 damage. Dispersion This skill has been updated from “50 feet in any direction” to “25 feet away from the character. Pulsar The Tevvyxian Exalted Artifact ability has had its wording changed slightly  Tide Devourer - Fury of Triton The Tide Devourer Legendary Passive has been updated for clarity in that the character may use Darktide to nullify the effect of a spawned Aberration ONLY from the ritual failure result they would encounter when the character performs an applicable ritual. Additionally the following line has been added to the Legendary Passive: The character can breathe in warm or cooler water indefinitely. Rules Reminders You can’t follow up a Second Chance roll with another use of Second Chance. Any challenge may only be modified by this skill once by anyone. For rituals, only the ritualist or their assistants may use Second Chance on the ritual success chance. Assistants must be declared (and factored into the roll) before rolling. However both the success chance, and failure result may each benefit from a use of Second Chance. If anyone is found to have staged their Arrest, and/or Sentence for a crime purely for the benefit of binding the Artifact: Subterfuge Belt, they will be given an unsportsman-like violation which will remove their ability to benefit from ANY Artifact for 1 year. If you are unsure of whether or not a sentence should count for this, please contact a member of the Exalted Team before using this artifact in order to prevent the ramifications. This Artifact is meant as reward for being a good sportsman when getting caught for crimes. Any skill that does not have the negotiation trait can, for the purposes of not accepting it, be treated as an attack. If you wish to refuse a beneficial effect, you can defend it according to its method of delivery (IE Dodge for Auto-hit or Spell Packet, Deflect if it was delivered via weapon or touch). In addition, an ability that cures a status (such as Panacea for Imprisoned while you are using Iron Body) can itself specifically be defended as if it were a status.  However, if the character does not defend a normally beneficial ability (including healing) they must accept the effect. In addition, while Incapacitated, Critical, or Dead you may not normally use skills unless explicitly stated, so you may not defend these abilities in that condition. The only exception that is acceptable in the stages of death would be if you wished to express your character’s final death and end of story to refuse healing that would restore you. Otherwise, it is important that players be allowed to use healing and other beneficial effects in a way you may find contradictory to your character’s interests.  Lastly, players are reminded that if you find yourself uncomfortable with interactions, such as the ones described here, you should use the Look Down system and Exit the scene. Safety Announcements As we enter the fall season be sure that you’re checking yourself for illness or any other situations that may warrant testing as per our current guidelines. Additionally, the evenings are beginning to cool so be sure to bring something warm as it’s possible to chill even at these temps.  A reminder that players should be signing on and off with a Safety Team Member when they start/need to use a green headband and when they stop. This is so we can better track who should and shouldn’t be using them. Card Announcements As always, Card Team will be available in the Bar room from 6p-9p Friday (during check-in) to help new players with their cards. Please be respectful of our team and do not ask them for help before hours have started. If you are a regularly attending player, please try to resolve any card issues before arriving at camp (contact us on Discord) so we can focus on helping new players! Write legibly on your card, with a dark colored pen (please no pencil!! And no neon colored pens!). If Card Team cannot read what you wrote, it will not get added to your card. If someone else signs off your card make sure they wrote legibly!! Please try to keep your cards dry! There should be ziplocs available in logistics to store your character cards in, take and use them. We recommend taking photos of your card before turning them in! Card team does their best, but we are only human(...ish). Photos are great for both you and us if we need to correct any mistakes. Read your card notes! Reminders from the Atmosphere Team this month! -Stay in character. If for some reason you need to go out of game, please do so away from other players as to not impact their immersion and gameplay. Please do not interrupt a scene for an OOG comment unless it is absolutely necessary.  -Roleplay your combat and sell your blows. It makes combat more fun for everyone Please do not openly use your phone. We get that there are times when you may need to check the time or check a rule, but please try to do these checks with your phone under a table or away from other players. We have noticed a severe uptick in this with the new exalted rules. Please be mindful of your trash.

  • Online Announcements August 2024

    Schedule: Day Camp is using the campground during the week. Therefore earliest arrival is 5:30pm and nobody will be allowed on premises until 5:30pm on Friday. This is not negotiable. James, Steve, or an Officer will wave players onto camp from the barn entrance and post an announcement on Discord and Facebook when you are allowed on camp. Check in begins at 6pm. Lay on is at 10pm. Lay off is Sunday at 2pm. *** Mandatory New Player Training will be held at 7:30 pm Friday under the white tent outside of the Inn. If you are bringing a friend for the first time, you are welcome to quietly sit it. We ask everyone else please move along from the area till after training is done. New Player training will be approxamately 20 minutes long as we cover important safey aspect of the game. You are welcome to stay longer should you wish to delve into key mechanics and a brief combat demo to help you get accustomed to the game as a whole. Rules Announcements and Updates Updates: The Physician skill Reanimation is being updated to only work on another target. This may seem intuitive, but certain Exalted abilities require this clarification. Players may start seeing a Light Blue Clothespin on certain characters where they might expect to see a black or red clothespins. These are unique to specific In Game guilds, and will NOT be honored if attempted to be turned in to Logistics. Please do not attempt to use Sleight of Hand to attain these without forewarning from said guild. In an effort to make Ceremonialist less daunting both to teach, and to learn, Quests have been changed to be run in one of 3 categories. A single Quest may grant you access to several rituals at once, similar to as was done with Sorcerer. Some quests have also been reduced to achievements within Ceremonialist.  The Exalted Class Fence has had its Legendary Passive updated for clarity.  The opening description of Stormblade has been updated in order to no longer imply a religious connection that wasn’t intended. Reminders: Players are reminded that if any artifacts combined at the Artifact Forge have two or more abilities that are not: 2 or fewer Periodic Base or Master class skills, 2 of fewer Passive Base or Master class skills (including Paragons), or a single passive ability that solely modifies a Base or Master class skill, the resulting Artifact must be submitted for approval by Rules Design. Artifacts such as these without the signature of Rules Design are invalid. The skill Hidden Pocket may only be used to hide an object no larger than 24 inches in any dimension, and lasts for a duration of up to 5 minutes. This may not be used in reaction to another skill or interaction, and must be called for the character to benefit from its effects. Players are reminded that it takes 5 seconds to use a Consumable. If you are using a Latent Defense from a Consumable, you must have used it in that same Period. You can only benefit from a Latent Defense in this way once per unique Consumable at a time. The only exception to this is those with Consumable Talents that say they may activate the skill as a Defense by spending a Talent Slot instead of using an item. Online Announcement During this event only, if you have read all of the announcements, you may use one (or one additional) use of the periodic skill Throw  as a thank you for actually reading the announcements and keeping updated on important information! Please refrain from sharing this on the Discord or other places online so that folks can discover this surprise for themselves! Lore Announcement A Pre-emptive warning for those waiting to submit for Unique Species or Restricted Races! The form will open shortly after the August event and will have an extended open period to the beginning of November. Any details on species / races that are currently at cap for this round will be made available when the form formally opens! So get your write ups ready! Safety Announcement Rain is on the forecast for this weekend so be sure to pack and plan accordingly. Temperatures will still be in the mid 80’s during the day so be sure to hydrate and keep cool. Cases of water will be available in the Inn and Logistics. Please be sure to follow all atmospheric requirements when using them and ensure you dispose of your trash properly.  Friendly reminder, players need to ensure they are having their cards signed and noted by a Safety Team member when using  a green headband as well as when you intend to stop using them so the note can be removed. This is to ensure we have a baseline awareness of who should and shouldn’t be using them. They are not something to be used for one’s convenience in the moment and are solely for players who cannot participate in normal physical combat. The on call list will be posted in logistics and threaded in the KR Discord for all Marshals.   • August 2024 Prologue

    Prologue Within the endless void, the space between the Inner Planes, a storm roils. It twists and continues to build, forming into an impossibly tall stormwall. As it rages on, waves of energy push outwards on the barriers of the planes themselves. The sheer force of the energy from the storm is enough to cause the barrier walls to shake violently, which causes them to tear and allow the storm to spill through. When the barriers between two planes form tears that are themselves linked by the storm itself, it becomes a conduit for the elemental energy to move from one plane to the other, forcefully dragging everything close to the rifts through from the elemental planes to the Material Plane. Along the back of a great leviathan of the seas; two icy, watery figures walk excitedly with arms full of various bottles made of ice. As they walk, there is a sudden and violent shaking as a rift opens up next to them. They both look incredibly shocked but not unhappy as they are pulled into the rift and disappear.  There is a thundering crash as two small mountains crash into one another. Those mountains chuckle, full of excitement about what is to come. There is an impatience to them, as they wait in the place that they had been told about. In the distance, there is a loud crashing of rock and stone vibrating through the ground as a planar rift tears itself open. When they see it, they begin to run, racing to be the first through.  Striding through the dense clouds, there is a knowing glint in the eyes of a woman made of whirling wind and crackling lightning. Another figure walks up behind her, full of nervous excitement. They watch together as the winds pick up and lightning strikes, while a rift begins to open. Without breaking her stride, she walks through. With a sideways glance to ensure they aren’t being followed, the other figure walks in after her.  Beside a sea of lava, two fiery women are sparring, enjoying the heat radiating off the lava as they fight. They turn curiously as there is a loud explosion, sucking in part of the sea of lava to reveal a large rift. The two share a knowing glance, sheath their weapons, and go rushing in. Deep in the woods surrounding Travance, there is a shuddering as all of the trees are pulled towards a central point and then blown back wildly as a planar rift opens. There is a loud cacophony, the sound of rocks smashing into each other endlessly, as a heavy earthen foot steps out.
