In the past few days, I’m certain many of those who wield the supernatural have felt something different in the air. Ritualists as well, I should believe, have even seen the shift. Perhaps you’ve cast a spell that seemed to contain more force than before, or faced a somewhat harder recoil from the power you invoked. I mean to assure you this is as expected.
Since Saturday, great power was required to perform a series of acts that would both free a monumentally important place of power - the Ivory Tower - and also restore Count Everest from the fate he suffered. In doing so, these actions both required and caused a reaction in the Weave that has shifted its fluctuations.
To put what occurred into layman's terms, over many years, we heroes have endeavored to restore the unfinished Weave into its completed state, and to that end we were successful. The Weave reached a stable state by our efforts, and would no longer require the upkeep needed in order for it to not inevitably wither away. In our efforts though, this more stable conduit of the supernatural forces offered less raw power.
Picture a wave cresting and crashing upon a shore. All our efforts caused these waves to grow more and more timid, ensuring the erosion of the shoreline would not occur as quickly. However, the waves themselves were smaller. What we did was, in the simplest terms, shake things up. The waves are higher, the crests and crashing more forceful. In comparison, we caused the waves within the Weave to also have higher crests and thus more forceful crashes.
This shift allowed the rituals that needed to be performed to be done so with the degree of power needed for them to be activated. The side effect, of course, is that failures also carry a potentially more dangerous backlash should they occur.
What does this mean for the future? With the Ivory Tower restored, new wealths of knowledge are at our finger tips. The tower was once a place that great sorcerers gathered and taught the sciences of metaphysics. I and many others are working even now to prepare the tower to once again receive others and reeducate the world in the ways of ritual craft.
As we move forward, we intend to rediscover the limits of what can be done in this world, and do all we can for the better of all! And of course, the invitation to join us remains open to all who might be interested.
