In light of the events that transpired in the last week, I have deliberated with Count Everest over a set of standing orders during this time of war. We are a civilized people and should remain that way. Ours is a code of conduct better than that of Gaaldron and Duke Balliol, and we should not bring ourselves to their level.
As follows are the standing orders for all under this time of war, or until such a time as Count Everest chooses to rescind them:
- Slaves of the enemy are to be freed and treated under the protections of our laws.
To break this order is punished the same as owning slaves within Kormyre borders.
Slavery is illegal within our kingdom and thus slaves are not the enemy. We must do what we can to stop the oppressive rule of their cruel masters, not become them.
- Enemies who surrender are taken as Prisoners of War and treated under the protections of our laws.
To break this order is punished with a declaration of Outlaw for one month.
We are better than our enemy and must show it. If you so choose to act as the enemy acts, then the laws of the kingdom will not shield you.
- Aiding the enemy in Supplies, Information, Troop support, or other means is an act of Treason against Kormyre.
To break this order is punished with a declaration of Outlaw until the war is won.
Support of the enemy is to see Kormyre fall into the hands of a Tyrant. Duke Balliol is an enemy of the kingdom and to support his efforts are a declaration of loyalty to him.
- Non-combatants within enemy territory are treated under the protections of our laws.
To break this order is punished to the same severity as if enacted against a subject of the kingdom.
We must show that we are not savage people. Innocents and non combatants are not participants in the campaign and leave no reason to be engaged. We do not fight those who cannot strike at us nor are able to defend themselves.
By the Will of the Crown,
Warlord, Lord Admiral Demirosz
