To my most Gracious Foes,
What an unexpected surprise that in the midst of my preparations I find Ser Jaerun Voss, restored, and ready to fight by my side. From Ser Jaerun’s own accounts, you sought to recruit him, so that I would face my former comrade in arms when our two forces met in battle. A clever tactic, if achievable. Nearly all who study war agree that the best tactics are the ones in which you can make your enemies' resources work for you, and against them. Tactics designed to demoralize the enemy into not fighting. The Arcane Sons have often sought to employ these tactics in gruesome extremes. As such, I feel no outrage that you would try this. Ser Jaerun was never one for… restraint. He would not have thought twice about doing something similar to you if he could. You should feel no guilt for attempting to inflict this upon him, even if the attempt failed.
However, the Eidolich is a pioneer in the realm of turning a fallen foe against their allies, and does not give up control so easily. That you chose to challenge the power he imbued into Ser Jaerun in such a way falls somewhere between mad ambition, and dangerous arrogance. I have come to expect this to be the area in which Travance operates. I believe it has been to your benefit this time. Despite not obtaining Ser Jaerun, his boasting forewarned you that Fortress Kharandor is defended against attempts to scry, or assault, and is blocked against any gates but the ones I use. In addition, his exit revealed the location of one of my gate stones. Were I you, I would almost certainly rather obtain such knowledge of my enemy, than attempt to… unnerve an agent of Necrophitus by forcing them to fight an old friend returned from the grave.
That being said, I cannot deny that I am overjoyed by Ser Jaerun’s return. I believed myself the last scion of Mornea, and that it would fall to me to alone carry the banner of my city to glory or ruin. Thanks to your actions, I no longer carry this burden alone. Regardless of your reasons for doing this thing, I owe you a debt of thanks that I cannot express in words, and I shall not forget it.
It is an oft invoked tradition among warriors of status to exchange gifts prior to a contest of arms. I will consider the resurrection of Ser Jaerun such a gift. In return I offer the sum of five hundred gold pieces, which will be delivered along with this letter to Her Lordship Morwenne Darkstar Archangel-Worthington, Lord of Alisandria, for those who put the time and effort into providing me with this boon. As our mutual game grows near, your every action continues to excite me. I believe I can say with some confidence that the only certain thing that will come from this, is how often we will surprise each other.
I wish you the best of fortune in our coming contest.
For the Honor of Mornea,
Ser Vaelin Danarest
Ser Danarest, It is a joy to offer you such a delight before these upcoming games. It is a pity we could not grant you the proper sommelier and attendee we had intended. Rest assured the agents who have failed in acquiring this hospitality will be corrected.
Perhaps by the end of all things we will have a replacement,
For the Throne, R.T.
