We know Travancians love hosting little events when trade in the Proper is opened early.
The Adventurer's Guild might be hosting some events too!
The weather has been extra chilly this time of year I'm told and as this feast is so close to Galladel's Watch, well, we need to keep ourselves in the best spirits we can!
If you wish to host something for the public, you may list them on the sheet next to this posting or post them below!
See you around!
Maren Dahl
Adventurer's Guild Representative
I have decided upon times for my activities, as the Bank has finally released their schedule of service. My memento ceremony for the spirits of the departed will be at noon on Saturday. I will collect items/notes until just before that time, so if you wish to send something to a departed friend or loved one, you have ample time to get it to me. Also, on Thursday from 2pm-6pm in the Inn, I will be running dice games, please see the attached document for details on both, and I hope to see you at either one! ~Therion
Well, someone is wonderfully in the spirit of the holiday. Apologies to Mr. Therion, one of the contests is repetitive of your missive:
Autumn Festival Contests
Hello Again Travance! The Adventurer’s Guild will be funding a few prizes for several contests throughout the week and weekend portion of the upcoming feast. The prizes include an amount of gold and small artifacts that will last a year after they're activated.
Contests
Pumpkin Decorating & Carving
Start Time: Wednesday Afternoon End Time: Friday Evening 5pm (Voting begins at 5pm and ends at 9pm!)
You may bring your own blank pumpkin and supplies, but there will be a handful provided within the Inn as well. All additions must be done within the Proper.
You may carve, paint, and decorate your pumpkin any way you like but remember there are children who visit the Proper so keep it tasteful. Depending on the number/variety of entries, we may have a ‘carved’ and ‘painted’ category but, for now, expect one winner for a single category.
The pumpkins will be displayed in the inn and there will be a small box left with them to put in votes on Friday throughout the evening. The winners will be announced when Jonas opens the inn to everyone around 10 bells at night!
Costume/ 'Best' Treasure Vault
Time: Thursday Evening Location: The Inn/Roaming
We would like to see your rendition of monsters and heroes. This theme follows the tradition of Amon’Zad’s Halahj’awen where people dress as the monsters of an undead army ruled once by the villainous Pharaoh Jahal al-Vasiq and the heroes of the land who defeated him.
This is not like the Winterdark Ball’s ‘best dressed’. After all, this is usually celebrated by commoners and those of us with less fancier duds. Enjoy yourself.
Categories:
‘Hero’ and ‘Villain’
Separate Award: This event would not be complete without folks providing the ‘treasures’ for our costumed friends. (The treasures are snacks and candy.) Please let us know below if you have a tent or building you would like to set up for the holiday and get an award for ‘best treasure vault!’ The general tradition is decorating an area with FAKE skeletons to represent the defeated undead enemy. Travance has a lot of enemies aside from undead, so if you want to get creative with a theme for a different type of monster, enjoy. (Please remember, FAKE body parts) You need to let us know ahead of time if you want us to visit or we won’t know to look!
Baking
Time: Saturday Noon - 1pm
Assistant: Khala
I absolutely will not be able to get into the Proper Saturday so I have Khala from the Darkwood Academy helping me out. Please provide them your name and which category you are interested in. Submissions need to be given before the end of Friday night (aka whenever Khala goes to bed)
With enough entries, we’ll have 3 flavor categories and one winner for each.:
Sweet
Savory
Other If there is a small amount of entries, we will have one winner over all (whichever dish shows up the most times between the three options would win then)
This will be similar to writing your name on a piece of paper and marking your favorites.
Since I will not be able to attend, please provide your own note card with dish name and ingredients. (I'll try to make sure there's some paper and quills available to write them ahead of time)
In addition to the above celebration, I will also be performing my duties as a priest of Galladel during this Galladel's Watch. If you wish to have a will made in the event of your becoming mortally inconvenienced, I am able to put your final wishes to quill and parchment, should you want to. Updates to existing wills can also be made with me, I know these were things Lady Ilana would do, but I am helping to share in this responsibility. Also, at some time yet to be decided (based on my shifts in the bank), I would like to perform a small ceremony of memory/memento. Folks could write notes to friends and loved ones that have passed, or make any other appropriate offering to the spirits of the deceased in order to quell their desire to cross back over to the realm of the living, as they cannot be brought back fully. I can collect these notes and offerings to keep them safe, and then at some time during the Feast, I will perform the rite to send them into the spirit realm to reach the intended souls. If you would like to assist, or would like to learn more about the Galladelian faith and its tenets, I will make myself available any time during the Feast, please feel free to strike up a conversation if you see me walking around. ~Therion
JONAS KANES APPLE EXTRAVAGANZA!!!
Apple Cider... Apple tasting stuff... Pumpkin tasting stuff... music... maybe wooden dancing clogs.... in the Blackbird... Thursday around noon...
As this is the first one without him, in honor of Gal'Azin Merikh, I will be placing cloth-covered bowls of candy in the Inn on one of the tables to commemorate Halahj'awen, the Z'hadeem celebration of victory over the Pharaoh Jahal al-Vasiq. I encourage anyone that wants to place a skeleton figure around where you stay in the Proper to do so, as it mocks the defeated forces of the Pharaoh. I would say people should also feel encouraged to dress up as the heroes or the Pharaoh and his defeated forces, but I do not want anyone accidentally getting stabbed because it's Travance and you look like a monster. I will keep the bowls full until I run out of candied "treasure" for people to partake in. Please be mindful not to leave the "treasure" wrappers strewn about the Proper, and to cover the bowls back up after helping yourselves.
