Dear Knight Realms Community,
After roughly 3 years of stop and go work, updates, overhauls, and global pandemics. I have news for you; we can, in fact, have nice things! Now if you're reading this letter with anything other than an overdrawn, overly excited, but painfully tired voice in your head; you're doing it wrong. We are so excited to say we are done with this project, and not only are we done, but we are ready to present to you something so much more than what was. Featuring an easy to use & smooth character builder, a thought out backend for marshals and staff, among other small features you didn’t know you wanted. With the future ever changing, it was our goal to build you a database that would withstand the tests of time. We hope you enjoy your new card system, EODRA.
Sincerely,
Your database team (Mara Yashinsky , Conor Peckham , Chris Garnes-Ahmed, Ben Weinfeld, Jacob Ferragamo) and your KR tech team (Drew Benton, JP DeSantis, Nick H , Marcella Torres)

(Now for all the VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS!!~~)
Hello KR, Card Raptor Mara here!
Please please please read this whole post before you head to the database. I’m sure everyone is very excited to hop into the database and start playing around with rebuilding their characters. But we have a few important announcements first.
If you haven’t already submitted Nick’s form to receive your build and event totals, please do so, so we can get that information to you. (Form here: https://forms.gle/u3rg2nm7YPH4xdw38 )
Yes, you will need to create a new account. If you don’t get the email verification immediately, please check your spam!
How do I recreate my character, you ask. Once you have your account created, and you have received your build/event numbers, you will go to my characters -> create a custom character. If you’re new to KR, just use “create a brand new character!”
We know those build totals you have only go up until the old database went down, but many of you have been paying via the Ko-Fi and Patreon over the past months. You will receive that build, but we cannot add it to your characters until they have been created in the database first!
Once PCs are in the database, James and I will be going through all the logs to get you all your owed build. We’ll make further announcements on that at a later date.
Once you submit your characters, I’ll also start going through and adding your SP and gold numbers that were in the old database. (New gold/sp will still have to be added later).
As you start rebuilding your PCs, you’ll notice part of the process involves your card being submitted for approval by staff/card team.
No character cards will be approved immediately, or even within the first month or two. The database allows you to edit and resubmit your card freely until it is approved, and we want you to be able to test out different character builds while the rules are being tested. We will make another announcement when we plan to end that “free rewrite” period, dependent on the rules review timeline. And yes, even though we will not be approving cards in the system just yet, we will still be reviewing your submitted cards to ensure your build totals/event totals/character builds are correct.
Also, keep in mind that If you submit your character with a custom race or religion, those will likely take longer to get approved. They require director approval, and there is only one James.
(This also means if you want to tweak your character after we get you all that Patreon back build, you can freely do so! Hey, I love when things work out like that).
The card builder has a field to submit those delicious character backstories! But even though they are part of the database, card team does not touch or handle character backstories; that’s the domain of the lore/story teams. If you come up to me with a question about your backstory or it’s approval, I will have to apologize and direct you to go talk to someone who is not me.
Your backstory will be approved separately from your character card. Just because your character card has been approved for play does not mean your submitted backstory has been approved yet! Lore/story teams will have more information for you about backstories later.
Some of you may remember pacting to a higher power at the 20th anniversary event and gaining a permanent alignment from that. Yes, those alignments are still part of your character, and will be added onto the characters after they are created. If you had a permanent alignment from that event, please do keep in mind when rebuilding your PCs that you’re still not permitted to have an opposing alignment from that pact! (This rule is only for those permanent alignments from the 20th anniversary event--if you’re reading this and confused, you don’t need to worry!)
Your database team and card raptor will be making themselves available this week/weekend to help with any character building and creation stuff! Check the character-build-discussion voice chat, if you see one of us there feel free to pop in! We might try to post office hours later.
Hey look, you read our whole long post, so go check out the database!

But wait, a bonus note from your Rules Team!!
With the change to 3.0, we wanted to keep that strong throughline of roleplay that sometimes gets lost in the chance to do full rewrites for everything.
We get everybody wants to spend all their build all at once, and many of us undoubtedly will. However, we from the rules team think learning is one of the most important parts of the game. So we want to put out some non-mechanical impetus and suggest that where it makes sense, we think it'd be important to leave some skills unlearned and unpurchased so our characters can have room to organically grow in our classes. Especially from when we all last played our characters and the in-game slow down and changes that have happened over the last year.
We get not everybody is gonna go for this, and so many of our characters have been around for years that mastery feels like something difficult to let go of. And in those cases, we understand and there's no judgement! Thank you all for being patient on the road to get to this point!

Have a good one everyone <3
